This was an experiment with a more muted palette. I had painted a grey undercoat and had planned on layer up to hid the grey. However, once I had painted on the red circles I quite liked the grey contrast. The piece evolved then, to make it look like the tulip bulbs had been planted and the foot of a south facing grey brick wall. I think they look so pretty and delicate among the green shoots. I think we should admire them from the kitchen window and remember to be gentle with them and ourselves.
